A-Wing Helmet
A-WING HELMET REPLICA PROJECT
One of my favourite original trilogy helmet designs. To see how this replica was made check the section halfway down this page.
The cheeks on this buildup have been extended. Since the main shell is cast in a thin urethane plastic, it can be heated and adjusted outwards.
The helmet fits very snug like the film used helmet. It's also flexible outwards (with heat) if you have a larger sized head.

HOW IT WAS MADE
First thing to do was scale this thing and produce a quick and dirty mock up so I could better understand the shapes and proportions. I did this exact progression stage on the BLADERUNNER VOIGHT KAMPFF project.
The toy also helped reference some of the shapes.I took a little artistic liberty on the rear.

Once I understood some proportions it's time to get the helmet modeled. To understand this process a bit more, have a look at my 3D PRINTING page.
After a few more rounds of revisions, we harvested a model that I approved for printing.
FINAL APPROVED 3D MESH:
From this stage I separated the shells and fired up the SLA printer.
