Francisco De Orellana Death Mask Replica
Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 1:29PM Featured in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Orellana's tomb contained one of the famed crystal skulls. This is a replica of his tomb mask.
Francisco de Orellana was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. He was the first to fully navigate the amazon river in the 15th Century. He also founded the city of Guayaquil in modern-day Ecuador.
Now you can own a replica from the movie! This is available in kit form (untrimmed, unpainted, unassembled). I do occassionally offer fully finished versions. Email me for details: impervium@hotmail.com

The mask seen above was recently painted in 2026. The tutorials showing below pre-date this special painting technique:
THE TUTORIAL:

This is the film-used mask:

**Please note: some of the images and tutorials seen below show outdated finished techniques. The current technique as of 2026 is as follows:

The kit consists of 3 parts:
- main mask
- left ear
- right ear

This replica is produed lifesized.

HOW IT WAS MADE:
The prop was studied closely from behind the scenes material and screen captures, scaled, then sculpted and detailed. An RTV mold was then produced and the mask finally cast in urethane casting polymer.

The ears were drawn in the computer, laser-cut in acrylic, assembled and molded.
The Mask and ears were cast, trimmed, assembled and finally gold guilded and antiqued in a green patina.

Here's a really nice review of this kit:
