Featured in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Orellana is a real-life historical figure.
Francisco de Orellana was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. He completed the first known navigation of the length of the Amazon River, which was originally named for him. He also founded the city of Guayaquil in modern-day Ecuador.

The prop was studied closely from behind the scenes material and screen captures, scaled, then sculpted and detailed. An RTV mold was then produced and the mask finally cast in urethane casting polymer.
The ears were drawn in the computer, laser-cut in acrylic, assembled and molded.
The Mask and ears were cast, trimmed, assembled and finally gold guilded and antiqued in a green patina.
