The Fifth Element TAXI CAB and COP CAR

18" TAXI and POLICE CAR MODEL KITS

Be sure to FAVORITE this page and return for updates.  This is my FLYING CAR page. Here you will see the development of a large scale (foot and a half) prop replica of KORBEN'S Taxi Cab and The Cop Cars from THE FIFTH ELEMENT!! These are being produced as minimum-run collector kits.

I'm moving slowly towards a new workflow for scale models, integrating more and more digital technology.

These will be made the way I made the OBLIVION DRONE model kit - the parts are modeled as 3D meshes, 3d printed, cleaned up and detailed using old school methods, and finally molded and cast.  Enjoy!:

 THE POLICE CAR.

The police car had a faster workflow than the taxi.  The original 3d mesh I commissioned was highly accurate on its first rendition and produced the following model for molding:

THE POLICE CAR KIT (FOOT AND HALF LONG!) INCLUDES:

  1. Top body shell
  2. Botton body shell
  3. VINYL Decal sheet
  4. rear thrust nozzles (2)
  5. front breaking nozzle assembly
  6. underside detail pieces (6)
  7. clear window paneling
  8. instructions
  9. Light bar rack (6 parts)

**light kit sold separately

KORBEN DALLAS CAB KIT (FOOT AND HALF LONG!) INCLUDES:

  1. Top body shell
  2. Botton body shell
  3. VINYL Decal sheet
  4. rear thrust nozzles (2)
  5. front breaking nozzle assembly
  6. underside detail pieces (6)
  7. Grill plate
  8. clear window paneling separately)
  9. Taxi sign brick

**light kit sold separately

 HOW IT WAS MADE:

The model began life as a 3D sculpture I commissioned from a few different artists.  The final model being produced in autumn 2017.  The newest model is the most accurate, and I engineered features that it wil make it easier to light, paint and assemble.

3d print in development (OCTOBER 2017)

The model was then sectioned to allow printing at such a large scale.

The parts were then printed by a really amazing 3d printing artist, David Morley.  3D PRINTS ON THE PRINTER:

Once I assembled the 3 sections, the process of smoothing began.  I primarily used BONDO to smooth out the surface.

I decided to accurize a few of the shapes  on the body, especially the rear, so we used apoxy sculpt to reshape those areas.

Sanding and refining continues on the body, including resurfacing and scratch building the underside carriage.

Here's a look at some of the new detail on the underside and the PVC undercarriage replacement:

The engine nozzles were turned on a lathe:

I had to sharpen some details so I created some CAD drawings to laser cut some plastic and acrylic:

COP CAR

Like the Taxi, the COP CAR was a model I commissioned from a very talented artist friend, Jerris Hof.

The COP CAR is scaled to 22" to be in scale with Korben's Taxi.
